Lush Life Productions and Zansa present Asheville’s 2nd annual Soumu at The Orange Peel in downtown Asheville, NC.
A Soumu is a big party celebrating African culture- music, dance, food, art, and all the beautiful things we love about the mother continent. Our artist-in-residence Barakissa Coulibaly will be performing a special solo piece entitled “Without a Shadow.” Part modern dance and part traditional West African dance, the piece will speak to the plight of the African woman.

Performers include:

Barakissa Coulibaly
Drum and dance students of Adama Dembele and Barakissa
Lisa Zahiya and friends, performing folk dances from North Africa and contemporary dances from Cairo
Mande Foly
African food vendors (cash only)
Senegalese arts and crafts vendors

Tickets are available in person at Studio Zahiya (90 N Lexington Ave, downtown Asheville) or through Barakissa, Adama, and other members of Zansa. Tickets also available at The Orange Peel box office. $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
